Worship at Land O' Lakes Bible Church
First, our worship is organized and focused on the Lord in all of its areas.
We place a high value on maintaining a Christ – centered worship service in which we meet with our Savior and keep Him first in all aspects of the service. Our announcements, greetings, and other informational discussions are relegated to the bulletin and the overhead projection prior to the service. Any aspect of a service which detracts from focusing on the Lord Jesus Christ is generally intentionally eliminated from the worship service proper. Our worship is guided by Hebrews 12:28 which admonish us to worship God with awe and reverence and I Corinthians 14:40 which instruct us to conduct out worship “decently and in order”.
Secondly, in our worship we seek to elevate our Lord and His word above our human condition.
That is why we often open with a silent prayer of confession. We are tainted by sin both by birth and by action. God is a holy God and although we are unable to attain His perfection, and only through the atoning sacrifice of Jesus Christ can we approach God, we are nonetheless called to be holy as He is holy. (I Peter 1:13-16) We believe that Jesus Christ has been the perfect sacrifice for the believer’s sins before a holy and just God; nonetheless, our fellowship with and relationship to the Lord is hindered by un-confessed sin. Therefore we want to enter worship having confessed our sins and obtaining forgiveness through Jesus Christ. (I John 1:9)
Thirdly, our music is, as much as possible, directed to God rather than to one another, assuring that we truly “offer our sacrifices of praise” to Him.
Therefore our music worship tends to be “vertical” rather than horizontal. We come into the Lord’s presence to speak and sing to Him (offer our sacrifices of praise Hebrews 13:15) and then listen to what He says to us in the written and spoken Word. The Apostle Paul, in both the letter to the Ephesians as well as to the Colossians, admonishes us to sing Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. We attempt to follow that admonition in our choice of music. We seek to use songs with 1) doctrinal integrity, songs that 2) glorify God rather than ourselves and songs that 3) lend themselves to congregational singing in their musical quality.
Our prayer is that you will come away from worship at LOLBC knowing that you have rightfully worshiped our God and Savior and have been in His presence in a service of corporate worship.
